Stress treatment with me
Do you feel as if you are drowning in your own life? Stress is not a diagnosis but a state of overwhelm that arises when there is far too much on our plate. It can be linked to work, family, life changes and more.
The way I work with stress is first to map out the stressors in your life. Then we calm the body with relaxation exercises, to create more clarity in your thoughts. Finally, we work on strategies for doing things differently in your life, so you don't end up there again. Read more about what stress is and how it is treated below.

What is stress?
Stress is the body's natural reaction when we feel under pressure. It is actually a biological mechanism that helps us handle challenges, but when stress goes on for a long time or becomes overwhelming, it can lead to burnout or a feeling of constantly running on overtime.
How does stress feel?
Stress can show itself in many ways, physically, mentally and emotionally:
Physically:
- Heart palpitations
- Tension in the body
- Headaches
- Tiredness
- Sleep problems
Mentally:
- Difficulty concentrating
- Memory problems
- Constant worrying
Emotionally:
- Irritability
- Sadness
- Having nothing left to give
- Feeling overwhelmed
Why does stress happen, and when is it dangerous?
Stress arises when the demands around you exceed the resources you feel you have available. It can be caused by:
- Challenges in your private life, such as conflict, illness or big changes.
- High pressure at work or unreasonable expectations.
- Perfectionism, or a tendency to set unrealistic demands on yourself.
Short-term stress can help us perform better in a pressured situation, but long-term stress without breaks for recovery can lead to serious problems such as burnout, anxiety and depression.
If you have symptoms of stress, it is important to take them seriously and seek help. Stress can be treated, and with the right support you can find your balance and calm again.
How can I help?
Stress is not a diagnosis but a complex state, which we can relieve by first exploring how it came about. We also look at how you relate to your feelings when you become overwhelmed. Together, we find new strategies for handling your feelings in a more helpful way. Then we practise them so they become part of your body and a natural part of your everyday life. We also make a plan for how you can reduce the impact of stress, either through exercises that strengthen your inner calm, or by working on the things in your outer life that you can say no to.
I work in an emotion-focused and body-focused way, because stress often settles in your thoughts, your feelings and your body. That is why body-based work has an important place in therapy when I help you find your way back to an everyday life with more clarity and energy.
Benefits of online therapy for stress
Online therapy lets you get help in a way that is flexible and easy to fit into your everyday life. You can stay at home where you feel safe, and you don't need to spend time travelling or coordinating, which can be a strain in a busy week.
The therapy can be adapted to your needs and take place at times that suit you, including outside normal working hours. You only spend the time the session actually lasts, which keeps it simple and efficient. You can also often get an appointment quickly, so you can start reducing your stress straight away.
Online therapy is simple and takes very little to get started: all you need is a quiet place and internet access on a computer, tablet or phone. Sessions are held in English, wherever you live in Denmark.
What my clients say
I came to Marlene with one central question I wanted to find an answer to. For me, the therapy became a really lovely journey of learning, where I not only got more clarity about my situation, but also had the chance to look deep into myself and reflect on my own patterns and core conflicts. Marlene is good at holding on to the essential questions and feelings, and at supporting and nudging me with care when needed.
Marlene is committed and empathetic, and creates a safe space where it is easy to share, especially because she invests herself in the conversation too. I was very glad to have a course of therapy with Marlene, and I would definitely recommend it to others, and use it again myself if I ever needed to.
We are so incredibly glad to be in therapy with you, and from session to session we can feel how we are changing for the better, both individually and together. You are wonderfully skilled at guiding the conversation and the space between us. We want you to know that.
Couples therapy has helped us in different ways. I have come to know T’s motives in a different way from what I assumed before. T has learned to listen better than before, and not necessarily to look for solutions, but simply to listen.
