Would you like to know more about online couples therapy?
Are poor communication, recurring conflicts or a lack of security getting in the way of your relationship? All of these are normal in a relationship, but when conflicts are left unresolved, they can shake the sense of safety between you. In online couples therapy, you can work on strategies for safe communication and on understanding each other's backgrounds, so that conflicts get resolved instead of repeating themselves.
Together with the psychologist, we explore how your past experiences shape the way each of you shows up in the relationship. Online couples therapy can also help you work through divorce, infidelity and betrayal. Sessions are held in English, by video, wherever you both live in Denmark. Introduction - what is online couples therapy?
Online couples therapy at Online Psykologhjælp is about helping you with the challenges you face as a couple. In couples therapy, you look together with the psychologist at the habits and patterns that have developed between you, and I help you break negative patterns and build new, constructive strategies. Online couples therapy can be used both to strengthen your relationship and to repair what has been broken.
Online couples therapy is for couples who want to strengthen their relationship, whether you are in the middle of a difficult period, want to prevent problems before they grow, or simply want to look after what you already have together. As an online couples therapist, I help you see each other again, along with the strengths you may no longer notice in yourselves. At the same time, I guide you towards deeper conversations and give you tools to handle the challenges you face in new ways.
With professional insight into communication, conflict resolution and the dynamics that often arise in relationships, I am ready to take the lead in the conversation when needed, and to offer concrete suggestions for how you can create change and find new ways forward together.
Benefits of online couples therapy
Online couples therapy gives you the flexibility to prioritise your relationship, wherever you are. You don't need to be in the same room: therapy can take place even if you are in separate homes, or perhaps even in different cities. All you need is a stable internet connection and a quiet place.
Another benefit of couples therapy online is that it fits easily into a busy everyday life. Sessions can take place at times that suit you, for example in the evening once the children are in bed, or during a break in the middle of the day. You also save the travel time and the cost of getting there and back: you only spend the time the therapy itself takes.
With online couples therapy, you can work on your relationship in a way that is both flexible and effective, with support from an experienced online therapist who helps you find solutions and new perspectives.
What happens in a couples therapy session?
In online couples therapy, I always start from what you as a couple would like to achieve. Already in the first session, we talk about what you hope to get out of therapy, while you introduce the challenges in your relationship and tell me a little about yourselves and your life together.
After the first session, each of you meets the therapist individually. Here we look into your personal life stories to understand each of you better. We talk about how you see love, how you each handle conflict, and how you communicate. These individual sessions give the therapist a deeper insight that strengthens the further work with you as a couple.
When you meet again as a couple, the therapist shares some of the most important insights from the individual sessions. Together, we then decide which areas you want to focus on and what the goal of the couples therapy should be.
How many sessions you need depends on your goals and your process. As a rule of thumb, though, the longer you wait to seek help, the longer it can take to work things through, because you may already have lost some trust and security with each other. That never means it is too late, only that prevention is more effective than repair.
Some couples need only a few sessions, while others choose a longer course of therapy. The therapy is always adapted to your needs and pace, so you can work on your relationship in a way that feels meaningful to you.

What my clients say
I came to Marlene with one central question I wanted to find an answer to. For me, the therapy became a really lovely journey of learning, where I not only got more clarity about my situation, but also had the chance to look deep into myself and reflect on my own patterns and core conflicts. Marlene is good at holding on to the essential questions and feelings, and at supporting and nudging me with care when needed.
Marlene is committed and empathetic, and creates a safe space where it is easy to share, especially because she invests herself in the conversation too. I was very glad to have a course of therapy with Marlene, and I would definitely recommend it to others, and use it again myself if I ever needed to.
We are so incredibly glad to be in therapy with you, and from session to session we can feel how we are changing for the better, both individually and together. You are wonderfully skilled at guiding the conversation and the space between us. We want you to know that.
Couples therapy has helped us in different ways. I have come to know T’s motives in a different way from what I assumed before. T has learned to listen better than before, and not necessarily to look for solutions, but simply to listen.
